Have you ever tried to take a good photo of the moon? I didn’t realize how hard it actually is!
Well, it was hard before I went and looked up advice on how to take good moon pictures.
A few things I learned:
- The moon just shows up as a glowing ball if you don’t use the right settings.
- It is actually much smaller in the lens than it is to the naked eye. It’s actually an optical illusion.
- It is still really cold outside and that makes it hard to take a good picture if your hands are shaking, use a tripod.
- I need a bigger lens (well not really, I’m just being lens greedy)
I looked online for a good resource for taking good moon pictures I came across this site. I used the exact settings they did (ISO 200, Aperture f/11, Shutter Speed 1/250) and I got a pretty fancy picture! I did enhance the picture in Photoshop and had to do a pretty major crop, but overall it’s pretty spiffy.
I plan on taking more pictures when the sky is clear, hopefully get some good crescent moon shots.
